In Australia there remains a strong disparity between the health outcomes of men and women.
Australian men are less healthy than Australian women. And to tackle this problem we need a focused effort to improve the health outcomes of our men. Preventative healthcare for the most part is gender neutral, but statistics do show that men present later for similar problems, and tend to be less aggressive about treating their more silent conditions such as elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugars.
There are also issues that are unique to men and require a specific approach such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Depression in men can also present quite differently, often late, and experience in identifying and helping cast off the shadow of the black dog in men is paramount.
